In a recent podcast appearance, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi raised concerns about Democrat Michigan Senate candidate Abdul-El Sayed, saying his views are “more than concerning.”
Host Donny Deutsch said, “You know, when you say Israel doesn't have the right to be a Jewish state, that's anti-Semitic, as far as I'm concerned,” with Pelosi cutting in, asking who said that.
Deutsch said that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said that, as well as El-Sayed.“That’s concerning,” he said.
“Yeah. No, it's more than concerning. It's wrong. It’s wrong, and it isn't a reflection of the Democrats in the Congress of the United States. This new person in Michigan, we’ll see if he gets elected to the Congress. But the mayor, bless his heart, I hope he succeeds as mayor, but I don't agree with some of the things he has said.”
El-Sayed has received endorsements from a long list of national Democrat leaders, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Senators Bernie Sanders, Elissa Slotkin, and Elizabeth Warren, and Reps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal, and Summer Lee.
Former President Barack Obama has endorsed El-Sayed and appeared at an October 24 rally in Detroit to campaign for him.
Notably, Pelosi had endorsed Haley Stevens in the Democrat primary in Michigan for the US Senate. Stevens lost the bid to El-Sayed. Pelosi said, “Haley Stevens is a proven fighter for Michigan! I am proud to endorse her for the U.S. Senate. From her time as Chief of Staff on the auto rescue task force to her work strengthening Michigan’s manufacturing industry in Congress, it’s clear Haley is well equipped to stand up to Donald Trump’s chaos, lower costs for our families and ensure every Michigander can thrive. Haley has delivered results for the American people as a Member of the House Democrats – and I know she will accomplish a great deal as the next Senator from the great state of Michigan.”
