A news crew from the Czech Republic in San Francisco to cover the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit (APEC) were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday evening, losing thousands of dollars in equipment.
Bohumil Vostal told the San Francisco Chronicle that he had been capturing video of the city’s famed City Lights bookstore when he and his crew members were approached at around 5 pm by three masked assailants with guns drawn.
“They were heading at my camera man, aiming a gun at his stomach, and one at my head,” Vostal told the outlet.

The robbers fled the scene in a dark sedan, and officers responded within a minute after Vostal called.
According to Fox News, this is the first year since 2011 that the US is hosting APEC, membership to which includes the US, China, Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and Russia.
The summit will take place between November 11 and 17, with President Joe Biden set to meet with China’s Xi Jinping. The city is far cleaner in anticipation of the upcoming conference.
California’s Gavin Newsom admitted in a Thursday press conference that efforts to clean up the Golden City were initiated only because "all these fancy leaders are coming to town."
"I know folks say, 'Oh, they’re just cleaning up this place because all these fancy leaders are coming into town'," Newsom said, adding, "That's true because it's true."
Investigators with San Francisco police’s robbery unit are investigating the armed robbery, and a spokesperson from Mayor London Breed’s office said the city is working to support the robbed journalists.
