On Friday, Ohio police released bodycam footage that captured a phone conversation between a detective and a suspect believed to be the scammer behind a tragic Uber driver shooting. In that phone call, the scammer impersonated a police officer when questioned by police.
New bodycam footage obtained by CNN Wire shows investigators outside of Brock's home moments after he allegedly shot Hall.
A phone conversation between Detective Cruz of the Clark County Sheriff's Office and the alleged scammer was captured via bodycam video.
Cruz asked the scammer, "May I ask who I'm talking to?"
"Yes, this is the officer speaking," the scammer responded.
Cruz replied, "Okay, what officer?"
The scammer said, "Yes."
"No, I need to know what officer sir," Cruz demanded.
"You're gonna be in trouble," the scammer remarked.
Cruz then said, "Okay. Let me ask you this, the female you sent over here, you know who she is?"
"Yes I do," asserted the scammer.
"Okay, um, well she's been in an accident and this is actually an officer. It's Detective Cruz with the Clark County Sheriff's Office," said Cruz.
The alleged scammer then agreed to meet with authorities but failed to show up, ABC Chicago reports.
William Brock, 81, of South Charleston, Ohio, allegedly shot and killed Uber driver Loletha Hall, 61, on March 25. Brock mistakenly believed Hall was part of a scam ring that had been trying to extort him, according to the Clark County prosecutor.
Authorities said Hall was also a victim of the scammers who dispatched her to Brock's home through the Uber app to pick up a package. Brock told police that he thought Hall was involved with the scammers who repeatedly called him earlier that morning, demanding he pay them $12,000.
Brock has been arrested and charged with three counts of felony murder, one count of felony kidnapping, and one count of felony assault. He has since been released on a $200,000 bond.
Dashcam footage reportedly captured the deadly confrontation, which showed Brock allegedly shooting Hall several times outside of his home. Hall was transported to the hospital and died during surgery.
No arrests have been made and authorities are working vigorously to track down the scammers who caused the deadly confrontation.
