Protests erupt in Minneapolis for third night following fatal police shooting

At 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, US Marshal Service Taskforce members attempting to arrest Smith on a state arrest warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon shot and killed the black man after he reportedly pulled a gun on the officers.

Protestors blocked off an intersection in the Uptown neighborhood, chanting: "Oink! Oink! Motherf—er." The crowd shot off fireworks.

A close childhood friend of Smith spoke on Saturday night.

At one point, protestors said that a McDonald's employee got into an altercation and drew a knife. Protestors followed the employee back to the McDonald's location that the individual works at.

The scene was different than past nights, with law enforcement reportedly keeping a loose perimeter around the protest.

On Friday night, protestors set fires to dumpsters and occupied other intersections in Uptown. Police arrested at least 20 people in connection to Friday's protests.

Amidst calls for body cam footage to be released, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety wrote in a statement that "The U.S Marshal Service currently does not allow the use of body cameras for officers serving on its North Star Fugitive Task Force. There is no squad camera footage of the incident."
