In Friday’s White House press conference, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that head of the Department of Homeland Security’s newly formed Disinformation Governance Board is an "expert on online disinformation," and has "extensive qualifications" on the matter.
Speaking to executive director of the board Nina Jankowicz’s previous experiences, Psaki said "she's an expert on online disinformation. She was formerly in the Wilson Center’s disinformation — she was formerly a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center. She's testified before Congress as well as the United Kingdom and European Parliaments. Advised a Ukrainian foreign minister, particularly relevant in this moment, under the auspices of a Fulbright Public Policy Fellowship, and overseen Russia and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute."

Shortly after the board was announced, both the board and Jankowicz have come under fire.
The board has been referred to as the "Ministry of Truth," referencing George Orwell’s novel 1984. The board will focus on countering misinformation related to homeland security.
In regards to Jankowicz, she has been revealed to have posted a number of questionable tweets calling the Hunter Biden laptop story a "Trump campaign project," and posted in support of the government fully locking down the country at the beginning of the pandemic.
She was also revealed to have said back in 2020, under the Trump administration, that the executive branch shouldn't have the power to determine what is fake news.
"I would never want to see our executive branch have that sort of power," she said.
