Amid the Afghanistan crisis, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) promoted a fundraiser on Wednesday for an organization that has ties to Hamas and the Taliban.
The Democrat congresswoman retweeted a post from Khaled Beydoun, a critical race theorist, which urged followers to donate to a non-profit organization called Baitulmaal. The organization's leader, Mazen Mokhtar, has reportedly worked with the Taliban and other terrorist groups.
Baitulmaal fundraises for Hamas and distributes aid to the "families of martyrs of the Palestinian people," according to the Washington Free Beacon.
The notorious "Squad" member has a history of antisemitic behavior and expressing support for terrorist groups.
Within days after being sworn into Congress, she hosted pro-Hezbollah activist, Abbas Hamideh, who repeatedly compares Israelis to Nazis.
In December 2020, the Michigan representative retweeted an antisemitic post for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, calling for the destruction of the State of Israel, which was deleted after facing backlash.
According to a 2020 analysis by the Middle East Forum, Baitulmaal works directly with Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. The non-profit received $10,000 in emergency coronavirus funding last year and frequently partners with Unlimited Friends Association for Social Development, the Free Beacon reports.
The Unlimited Friends Association partners with Baitulmaal and disperses funds to families of Palestinian terrorists, according to data from the Middle East Forum. These donations are similar to the Palestinian Authority's "Pay to Slay" program, which funnels hundreds of millions of dollars to Palestinian terrorists. Earlier this year, the Palestinian government paid $42,000 to the family of a Palestinian terrorist that stabbed two Israelis to death. Two others were wounded in the attack, including a two-year-old child, Free Beacon reports.
Baitulmaal is listed on The Unlimited Friends Association's website under the partners and donors page. According to the group's Facebook page, there are references that contain phrases such as "the filth of the most dirty Jews" and "Nazi Zionist jails." Mokhtar was under investigation by federal agents in Connecticut in 2004 for running a website that "solicited funds for the Taliban and Chechen mujahideen," although the organization's leader was not convicted.
According to Free Beacon, Baitulmaal partners with West Bank-based Hamas organizations. Baitulmaal and an offshoot of Hamas, the Yazour Medical Clinic in Nablus, have been working alongside one another for years.
Last year, antisemitic activist Linda Sarsour hosted a fundraiser for Baitulmaal which raised tens of thousands of dollars.
