Undercover video showed campaign staffers and friends of left-wing James Talarico saying that the Democrat Senate candidate is only playing the "middle ground" in order to get elected, and then he will use his position to advance far-left and progressive policy on abortion, the border, and trans issues.

One of the volunteers for Talarico's campaign, Kim Collins Gilby, who is also the county chair of the Democrat Party, reminded the undercover journalist that Talarico thinks the border should be a "welcome mat" for people to come into the country. This contradicts his statements on a recent town hall where he said that he was a "border security Democrat."
Matt Menard, the father of Talarico's girlfriend Brianna Menard, told OMG in the undercover video that Talarico is "not going moderate" and "not going to the middle" on issues despite his public statements. He added, "Don't put too much stock into [Talarico's] border security comments."
Menard also said that Talarico is appalled by ICE, and that he wants to give everyone illegally in the country amnesty. He added that if the Democrats take control of the House and Senate, Talarico will work to stop ICE.
Another issue that Talarico has been going to the middle on is sex change operations for minors. Gilby, while speaking to the undercover journalist, said that she didn't think he would vote to stop them if he got elected despite his statements going "180 degrees."
"I think he said it awkwardly, but yeah, I think he was just trying to push to the center, because that is, you know, sadly, life in Texas," Gilby said.
Talarico previously voted against a ban on sex change surgery for minors. Now he claims to oppose sex change surgeries for minors.
Another issue that he has gone to the middle on is abortion. Talarico staffer Andhi Beltran-Garcia said that Talarico is going to play the "middle ground because he's in Texas," but that he believes the abortion restrictions as they currently stand are "too far."
"He is more progressive on it. I feel like he will be more of like just it's not the government's job. We shouldn't ban this or anything," the staffer added while speaking to the undercover journalist.
Talarico is running for Senate against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the midterm elections. The latest polling averages have Talarico up by 2.5 points on Paxton, according to RealClearPolling.
