Actor Robert De Niro, 80, will be reprising his iconic role in "Taxi Driver" for an upcoming series of Uber advertisements.
De Niro is reprising his role as Travis Bickle and will reportedly grace television screens to re-speak his famous line: "You talkin' to me."
According to The Sun, the Oscar-winner is filming a series of advertisements this week in London.
"He's going to be Travis Bickle, saying some phrases and playing up to it," a source told The Sun. "His previous adverts have shown he has no problem poking fun at himself."
De Niro, who is known for playing iconic characters like Jack Byrnes in "Meet the Parents" and Max Cady in "Cape Fear," has been propping up in additional ad campaigns, which some speculate to be the consequence of his 2018 high-profile divorce.
"A lot of people feel like some of these classic films are his best work, and signing up to commercials is selling out a bit, but obviously he's had a very expensive personal life," the source told the outlet.
De Niro's attorney claimed in 2021 that the longtime actor had no other choice than to find acting gigs in order to pay for his divorce and pricey alimony payments.
In 2018, De Niro filed for divorce from his second wife, Grace Hightower, and agreed to pay Hightower $1 million each year in alimony under the provisions of their prenup until she remarries or one of them dies, according to the New York Post.
The pair had been married for 20 years before divorcing for the first time in 2003 but decided to remarry a year later.
During a court hearing regarding the expensive alimony payments in 2021, De Niro's lawyer, Caroline Krauss, told a Manhattan judge: Mr. De Niro is 77 years old, and while he loves his craft, he should not be forced to work at this prodigious pace because he has to."
"When does that stop? When does he get the opportunity to not take every project that comes along and not work six-day weeks, 12-hour days so he can keep pace with Ms. Hightower’s thirst for Stella McCartney?” Krauss said.
While Martin Scorsese's 1976 classic was filmed in New York City, the location of this series of Uber advertisements is being shot in London and the company said there will be special surprise cameos, as well.
