“When US Secret Service Special Agents choose to join a protective detail, they understand the commitment required: long hours, frequent travel, and the need for constant flexibility.”
A Secret Service agent has been put on leave after the security official was accused of leaking information to MS NOW for a news story about other agents being distraught over the vice president's personal travel schedule, according to a report from CNN.
According to the report, a review is being conducted to evaluate the agent's activities, however, it is not clear if criminal charges will be brought with respect to the agent accused of leaking to the press. The agent has been accused of leaking to MS NOW about how agents are supposedly "fed up" with the amount of personal travel for Vance and his family. The report included agents complaining about how they had to take Vance's son to a golf lesson on a helicopter that was canceled last minute over the weather.
The report said that agents have become "fed up" with Vance's last-minute travel demands, leading them to cancel days off and other plans to help the Vice President and his family—which is part of doing the job as a Secret Service agent. The article comes about as the Vances have also welcomed a fourth child into their family, something that is bound to create change within any household.
Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the probe. "A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security. While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is unequivocal: any conduct that undermines the trust and confidence between a protectee and their protective detail is fundamentally incompatible with our mission and will not be tolerated."
“The Vances are grateful to the men and women of the U.S. Secret Service who serve our country with distinction,” the Vances said in a statement about the report. “While protecting a Vice President with a large policy portfolio and a young and growing family presents a unique challenge, agents of the Secret Service do so with excellence every day.”
Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn said in response to MS NOW's report that agents are expected to be flexible as the job demands in the role.
“When U.S. Secret Service Special Agents choose to join a protective detail, they understand the commitment required: long hours, frequent travel, and the need for constant flexibility,” Quinn said. “Nights, weekends, and holidays are part of the job. Our agents work tirelessly to ensure protectees’ safety and security, while also preserving normalcy to the extent possible. We are committed to supporting our personnel, which requires around the clock dedication and discipline. This is a job that requires absolute dedication and discipline.
