Hollywood is getting behind the two Democrat senatorial candidates in Georgia, and failed gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams is helping them do it. Abrams is holding weekly meetings "specifically for Hollywood agents, managers, publicists and entertainment execs for how they can best help in the races."
Fair Fight, founded by Abrams, is taking its message to Hollywood celebrities and bringing these out-of-staters in with their powerful name recognition to the state to back the Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, reports Hollywood Reporter.
A voting rights groups, Fair Fight has enlisted Selena Gomez, Yara Shahidi, Issa Rae, Keke Palmer and Steph Curry to star in videos designed to influence Georgia races and voting efforts.
Abrams said on an Amazon Q&A on Nov. 18 for her new film All In: The Fight for Democracy, "I believe very much in the power of celebrity to cut through the noise of politics. Whether it was in Georgia or in Michigan or Wisconsin, Arizona, or Nevada — states that faced aggressive voter suppression in 2016, 2018 — it was absolutely an important moment when they heard someone they saw not as a politician, which is an easy community to be suspect of, but those that they trusted as part of the way they think about how they organize their lives. It does indeed matter."
Fundraising and phone banking efforts from John Legend, Kerry Washington, Jon Cryer, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Julia Louis-Dreyfusas well as producers, show creators and showrunners are meant to bolster Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock's efforts to flip the Senate to Democrat control.
This would give the Democrats control of both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government, meaning that the Biden Harris administration could virtually push through any measures, restrictions, or legislation that catches their fancy.
Leftist Twitter troll and former child star Alyssa Milano said "You show up to do the work. You show up to phone bank and you write letters and do digital canvassing and everything that I think we all did as citizens — not as Hollywood people, but as citizens — for the general election. Being someone who worked in Georgia for two years while I shot [Netflix series] Insatiable, I'm really aware of how powerful and impactful the organizers are."
"If I were in Georgia right now shooting, that would be a whole other story," Milano went on to say. "I'd be knocking on doors, I'd be driving people to the polls, but I'm not, so the best thing I think we can all do in this situation is support the people on the ground doing the hard work and that don't often get recognized for it."
President Trump will be heading to Georgia to state his case incumbent GOP Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. "I'll be going there on Saturday night," Trump said, "and maybe I'll go twice. It's very important that we win those races. These are two great people [Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue]. I know them both very well, they're both great people," Trump said on Thursday. The run-off election is slated for January 5.
