A man suspected of crashing his car into an Uber at 100 mph in Los Angeles, killing the three passengers inside, has been revealed to have a lengthy rap sheet and was out on probation at the time in a murder case.
31-year-old Gregory Black is accused of crashing his vehicle on August 26 at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and West Century Boulevard in Westmont, Los Angeles into an Uber that was carrying Juvelyn Arroyo, 23, Veronica Amezola, 23, and Kimberly Izquierdo, 27, according to the Daily Mail.
Black was said to have run a red light with his white Mercedes-Benz at 5:25 am and T-boned the black Honda being used as an Uber vehicle, causing the car to spin around five times and killing three of four passengers.
LAPD Detective Ryan Moreno said that one of the women was ejected from the car during the crash.
A fourth female passenger and the male driver were both taken to a local hospital.
Investigators believe that Black may have been trying to flee from something leading up to the crash, and he is currently being held on $4 million bail.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Black has been charged with three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter for the deaths of the three women.
Black, who is a known gang member with three felony convictions, was previously released under LA District Attorney George Gascon.
Police said that Black had been out on a five-year probation, and has 11 felony charges and three convictions in those cases, and four misdemeanor charges and one conviction in those cases.
Moreno said the crash site "looked like a bomb went off."
“It’s obvious when you see these videos that it’s vehicular homicide all the way,” Moreno said. “You got an individual driving at speeds upwards of 100 mph in 35 mph streets, blowing red lights and ultimately basically playing roulette and hitting a car, T-boning a car and killing people.”
A GoFundMe for sisters Kimberly and Veronica read, "Kimberly Izquierdo and Veronica Tatiana Amezola are two kind, beautiful souls. On August 26th, they were taken from us much too soon when they were on their way back home, along with their dear childhood friend, Juvelyn Arroyo."
"Kimberly and Vero were both bright and full of life, with so much more life to live and gave so much love through their kindness, intelligence, compassion, and joy,", the GoFundMe, which has raised nearly $40,000 by Thursday morning, read.
A GoFundMe for Juvelyn read, "Please consider sharing to help us honor the memory of my sweet cousin Juvelyn Arroyo bright and promising young life taken from us too soon as she was victim of a tragic car accident along with 2 of her friends. Your kindness will be deeply appreciated during this challenging period." That GoFundMe has raised over $15,000 by Thursday morning.
