BREAKING: Not guilty verdict for 2 suspects in ‘attempted kidnapping’ of Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta were found not guilty on all charges. Both men had been charged with kidnapping conspiracy. Harris also faced charges on possession of a semiautomatic rifle with a short barrel for which he had not registered, according to local news.

The charges against all four men were for kidnapping conspiracy.

In December, it was alleged by the defense that the FBI entrapped the men in the plot. "The government picked what it knew would be a sensational charge: conspiracy to kidnap the governor," the attorneys wrote.

The suspects had said that the charges stemmed from government misconduct, and that FBI informants had entrapped the men into the plot. The suspects said that though they were angry with Whitmer, that anger was used as a tool by the FBI informants, and that there never was a real kidnapping plot.

Reports surfaced in October 2020 that Whitmer was the subject of a kidnapping plot. There was no attack, and no abduction.

"There was no plan to kidnap the governor, and there was no agreement between these four men," Croft's lawyer Joshua Blanchard said during closing arguments Blanchard said that it was the government that said the government created the conspiracy, and that "without a plan, the snitches needed to make it look like" there was one.
