On Thursday, President Donald Trump responded to the termination of Dr. Anthony Fauci's government security detail, saying that Fauci and others can hire their own security if they feel that they need it. Trump noted that they made a lot of money in their careers.
Reporters in Ashville, North Carolina asked the president it he had any comment on Fauci losing his security detail. He said: "I think, you know, when you work for government, at some point your security detail comes off and, you know, you can't have them forever."

"You know, they all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security, too. All the people you're talking about," Trump continued, later adding, "They can hire their own security. They all made a lot of money. Fauci made a lot of money. They all did."
Trump revoked the security detail for Fauci this week as well as for the 51 intelligence agents that signed the letter spreading the false claim that the Hunter Biden laptop story had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."
In addition to this, Trump has removed the security detail from former national security advisor John Bolton, who left the first Trump administration on bad terms with the president. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also had his security detail removed this week.
