Former President Donald Trump issued a message congratulating new House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) after he was officially selected for the coveted position.
“Congratulations to Rep. Mike Johnson,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He will be a GREAT ‘SPEAKER.’ MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

This comes after Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) dropped his bid for the Speaker’s gavel Wednesday, only hours after he had secured the GOP nomination for the position.
The former president had made it clear that he was no fan of Emmer's candidacy; he referred to him as a "Globalist RINO" and said that a vote for him would amount to a "tragic mistake."

Roars of applause could be heard in the House when Johnson was first nominated for the position by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

Other candidates who Trump congratulated for reaching the finals rounds included Reps. Mark Green (R-TN), Byron Donalds (R-FL), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), and Roger Williams (R-TX).
