American and UK forces also launched joint airstrikes at targets in Yemen late in the evening. The additional strikes come one day after the Biden administration launched retaliation strikes on at least 85 targets of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliated groups in other countries.
According to a "Joint Statement from Australia, Bahrain, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States on Additional Strikes Against the Houthis in Yemen," the airstrikes hit 36 Houthi targets at 13 different locations in Yemen "in response to the Houthis' continued attacks against international and commercial shipping as well as naval vessels transiting the Red Sea."
The joint statement, released by the UK government, adds, "These precision strikes are intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities that the Houthis use to threaten global trade, and the lives of innocent mariners, and are in response to a series of illegal, dangerous, and destabilizing Houthi actions."
Houthi terrorists have committed more than 30 attacks in the maritime region since mid-November and have been increasing shipping costs around the world.
