WATCH: Shocking footage emerges of police storming a New Year’s party of SIX people in Quebec

The caption translates as: "the police have just assaulted a six-person 'illegal gathering' in a house in Gatineau after responding to a complaint made by neighbours. The habitants of the house resisted."

The video, which has since gone viral on social media, lasts almost exactly two minutes, and shows a man separated from his family by officers and wrestled to the ground, ostensibly for breaking lockdown regulations and then resisting arrest. He ends up face down in the snow and handcuffed.

There is a lot of shouting back and forth in both English and French during the course of the video, with police barking orders at the revelers in both languages, and people screaming to let the man go, that he could be hurt.

One person was arrested in connection with the incident, and taken into police custody. He has been released, but the possibility of him facing charges for the incident is still pending, according to le Journal de Montreal.

According to Surete du Quebec Lt. Eric Simard, the original intention of the officers was to respond to a call they had received, shutting down the festivities, and issuing an official warning.

However, according to Simard, the people present at the location manifested that they would not stop the party, and that's when things got aggressive. They have now been issued fines of $1546 each.

There are questions raised by the video about the potentially overly heavy-handed tactics of the officers involved. Also, critics point out that many of the rich and famous are getting away with flouting the same rules that get common people arrested.
