WATCH: President of Guatemala SLAMS Biden’s policies on immigration
“And then, the coyotes came and took kids and adolescents to the US. And the border filled up, not just with people from Guatemala. There were tons of people there,” President Giammattei said.
A frustrated Alejandro Giammattei, the President of Guatemala, expressed his consternation over the Biden administration's "mixed messages" in an interview on Fox News on Wednesday.
Fox News's Sara Carter, asked Giammattei, in Spanish, if he thought people were leaving because of the "confusing" messages from the Biden administration, and because of the big change in messages from one administration to the next. His reply was:
"I've made it known that humanitarian messages have been twisted by the coyotes, because what they said over there is that 'they would work to reunite families.'"
"And then, the coyotes came and took kids and adolescents to the US. And the border filled up, not just with people from Guatemala. There were tons of people there."
"That's a clear message. But the only thing a lukewarm message is going to do is create the possibility for misunderstandings. It could be said in good faith, but there will be people who misinterpret it."
Carter went on to mention that President Giammattei told the public that, during their private meeting, he offered to work with VP Harris on cooperating in order to enact and enforce strict new anti-coyote laws.
