Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claims that his government is not banning shotguns and rifles, despite the fact that a last-minute amendment to the Liberal's anti-gun bill does just that.
He also argues that the Conservatives are trying to spread disinformation about the legislation and to scare people.

View on RumbleTrudeau's justification for increased gun control has been that he wants to keep communities safe, a scare tactic that is reiterated during this statement.
"What we're looking at right now is where to make sure that that line is right." he begins. "To keep communities safe, to ban military-style assault weapons, and to ensure that we're not going after shotguns and rifles that are primarily used for hunting."
"It's a complex issue and it's made more challenging by the fact that the Conservative Party is in the pockets of the gun lobby and trying to spread disinformation and scare everyone as much as possible," he says.
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has been very outspoken about hs opposition to the proposed bill, arguing that the vast majority of gun crime in Canada comes from firearms illegally brought into the country.

Last month, an amendment was tabled that would essentially criminalize "a firearm that is a rifle or shotgun, that is capable of discharging center-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner and that is designed to accept a detachable cartridge magazine with a capacity greater than five cartridges of the type for which the firearm was originally designed."
In addition to this was a list of specific guns that would also be banned, including the SKS, a Soviet-designed rifle with an estimated 20,000 owners that is frequently used in sports shooting.
Despite the overreach of this firearms bill, speaking out against it will get you in trouble, as Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price learned the hard way.

View on XAfter publicly slamming Trudeau for the bill amendments, the mainstream media came down hard on Price, forcing his NHL team to issue an apology to "any and all who have been offended or upset by the discourse that has arisen over this matter in recent days."
