WSU coach to file lawsuit against school for ‘illegal termination’ after being fired for defying state vaccine mandate
Rolovich’s lawyer is now saying that they will take legal action against the school and those responsible for the “illegal termination” of the coach’s contract.
Following the firing of the now-former Washington State University football coach from his position after refusing to comply with the state's vaccine mandate, Nick Rolovich will be taking legal action against the school for his "illegal termination."
On Monday, Rolovich, as well as four assistant coaches, were fired from their positions for failing to meet the state's October 18 deadline for school employees to get vaccinated.
According to KOMO News, Rolovich had previously asked for a religious exemption, but was denied.
Rolovich's lawyer is now saying that they will take legal action against the school and those responsible for the "illegal termination" of the coach's contract.
In a statement provided to KOMO News, attorney Brian Fahling said the religious exemption was denied, but that there were indications that the exemption would not have been accommodated even if it were granted.
The team of lawyers also accused the school of directing campus police to escort Rolovich to his car immediately following his firing, not allowing him to go to his office.
According to the lawyer's statement, WSU Athletic Director Pat Chun has made it clear Rolovich would be fired since "at least early April."
"Chun's animus towards Coach Rolovich's sincerely held religious beliefs, and Chun's dishonesty at the expense of Coach Rolovich during the past year is damning and will be thoroughly detailed in litigation," the statement reads.
"Rolovich is also accusing Chun of discriminatory and vindictive behavior," according to KOMO News.
