California Governor Gavin Newsom pulled his son out of a summer camp after photos of the child emerged showing him unmasked indoors, against the latest CDC guidelines.

The news comes as California announced plans to mask students when they return to school in the fall, per CDC guidance.

Newsom's communication director told Fox News in a statement, "The Newsoms were concerned to see unvaccinated children unmasked indoors at a camp their children began attending yesterday. Their kids will no longer be attending the camp."

California's current COVID-19 guidelines state that children 2 to 11 must be masked during "camps for youth, youth sports and other youth activities, including theater and music performances and band. Updated CDC guidance is forthcoming for youth settings."

Gavin Newsom's harsh COVID-19 policies targeted at children have not pleased Californians. A group called "Reopen California Schools" is suing Newsom over the  mask mandate in schools

On the issue of Newsom's kids being maskless, the group said "This is in clear violation of his own mask mandates. Why can his kid be maskless, but not ours?" Said the group on Twitter.

Newsom also came under fire for shutting down California's public schools while sending his kids to a private school, which was not closed by the state. He is facing a recall vote in September.
