The boy's mother found the 2-year-old boy crying out with stab wounds and a knife next to him.
Authorities who have investigated the case that took place on November 1 in Brick Township spoke to the cousin of Rodriguez, who said the 20-year-old started talking about the subject of human sacrifice, and asked if they had sacrificed someone before. Rodriguez has been charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and other related offenses.
The mother of the toddler said she heard him cry and found the 2-year-old boy with stab wounds and a knife next to him. The boy survived and is in stable condition at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The toddler had a punctured lung as well as a cut to the wall of his heart, court documents said, per the New York Post.
A probable cause document from police said that when police arrived at the scene of the house at 2:30 pm, the boy was still alert and conscious. Rodriguez was informed of her Miranda rights and then admitted to stabbing her brother, police documents said.
She later told authorities that she heard multiple voices and was experiencing hallucinations, but that she remembered stabbing her toddler brother. She also answered a question in Spanish, “to the effect of a third person telling her to stop talking so she doesn’t go to jail," per court documents.
After she confessed to the crime at the police station, authorities stopped questioning her, per court documents.
