Letitia "Tish" James, NY state's Attorney General, has indicated that she is rejecting NY Gov. Cuomo's proposal and moving full steam ahead with investigating him formally.

"NEW: ?@TishJames? rejects ?@NYGovCuomo? proposal for investigating sexual harassment allegations against him," reads the tweet. A short statement from James herself follows:

"To clarify, I don't accept the governor's proposal. The state's Executive Law clearly gives my office the authority to investigate this matter once the governor provides a referral. While I have deep respect for Chief Judge DiFiore, I am the duly elected attorney general and it is my responsibility to carry out this task, per Executive Law. The governor must provide this referral so an independent investigation with subpoena power can be conducted."

Gov. Cuomo's proposal was, essentially, that he would get to cherry-pick the judge that would lead the probe.

It appears that Republicans and Democrats are aligning against the embattled NY State governor in wanting him investigated. State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D-Bronx) stated, according to the New York Post:

"I believe survivors. The serious allegations presented against Gov. Cuomo by his former staffer are incredibly upsetting and repulsive. I join the multiple calls made for an immediate independent investigation into them."

Even the White House appears to be on board, with Press Secretary Jen Psaki saying the following on the subject:

"There should be an independent review looking into these allegations, and that’s certainly something he supports, and we believe should move forward as quickly as possible. They’re serious. It was hard to read that story as a woman, and that process should move forward as quickly as possible?,? and that’s something we all support and the ?p?resident supports?."
