New York City Council members are set to introduce a nonpartisan bill that would repeal sanctuary city laws for illegal immigrants and allow local law enforcement to work with federal agencies on immigration matters.

This after the Big Apple has been inundated with illegal immigrants as a result of President Biden's open borders, causing an existential crisis in the city that officials can no longer contain without adopting significant measures.

The bill will be introduced on Thursday by council members Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) and Robert Holden (D-Queens), the New York Post reports. The legislation aims to roll back NYC's "sanctuary city" laws implemented during former Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration.

The proposed bill would reverse laws prohibiting local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) to enforce federal immigration laws, per the outlet. Current law allows local authorities to assist the federal government only if illegal immigrants are suspected to pose a serious public safety risk or are suspected to be terrorists.

Despite being introduced in a nonpartisan effort, support for the bill will be a tasking feat due to the city's progressive majority on city council.

Council member Holden, a moderate Democrat, told The Post: "Sanctuary city laws put all New Yorkers, both immigrants and longtime residents, in danger by preventing the NYPD and DOC from working with ICE. We do not need to import criminals, and only 23 years since 9/11, we have forgotten the deadly consequences of poor interagency communication."

"We must repeal these laws immediately," said Holden.

Holden said that Laken Riley, the Georgia nursing student murdered by illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra, might still be alive if it weren't for sanctuary city laws. Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested in NYC on child endangerment charges six months before he allegedly killed Riley.

The NYPD was forced to release him rather than turn him over to federal immigration agents due to the city's sanctuary laws.

Democrat Mayor Eric Adams has publicly shamed the Biden administration for their open border policies, which have wreaked havoc on the city and its residents. Illegal immigrants have overtaken hotels, schools, public parks, and city streets. Many of them have been involved in violent crime.

Mayor Adams reiterated the need for the city's sanctuary laws to be revoked in February so illegal immigrants suspected of serious crimes could be turned over to ICE.

Both Mayor Adams and Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul have declared a state of emergency over the border crisis.
