One worker’s father said the scene was a “warzone.”
A shooting at a New Jersey Chick-fil-A restaurant left one person dead and six others injured after a group of masked men entered the location and opened fire.
The incident took place around 9 pm at a Chick-fil-A location on Route 22 in Union Township. According to CBS New York, witnesses and employees described a group of masked men forcing their way into the restaurant and moving behind the counter before opening fire multiple times. Family members of employees said several workers were among those injured.
One worker’s father said the scene was a “warzone.”
“I heard the shots,” said a Lyft driver, according to WABC. “When I finished the trip, I go to Chick-fil-A to buy two burgers — I see the police, I heard the shots very close.”
A 911 dispatcher described the scene, saying, "I got an unconscious witness. I've got one shot in the face ... and I have at least two in the leg.”
The prosecutor’s office said seven victims were found at the restaurant. One person was pronounced dead, while six others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill commented on the shooting, saying, "New Jersey stands with the Union Township community."
"We now know that last night's shooting in Union Township tragically claimed one life and left six others injured. Our hearts go out to the victim's loved ones, and we are hoping for the full recovery of those who were injured," Sherrill said.
He added that the community should "remain vigilant and report any information to local law enforcement."
