Ontario reaches over 6,000 cases of coronavirus, 22 more deaths

The province of Ontario has reached over 6,000 cases of coronavirus.

The province of Ontario has reached over 6,000 cases of coronavirus, according to CTV News.

This was as a result of 458 new cases of the virus being added on Friday morning. The province's health authorities also confirmed 22 more coronavirus deaths. It takes some 16 hours for the provincial government to update the public health statistics.

Ontario has currently recorded 222 coronavirus deaths, 136 which were above the age of  80. The youngest person to have died from coronavirus is in between the ages of 20 and 39.

Long-term care homes have been particular affected by the pandemic, with 73 coronavirus outbreaks recorded in these homes across Ontario. 98 of the 222 coronavirus deaths have been inhabitants.

217 Ontarians are currently using ventilators, while 673 people are being treated in hospital.

In Canada as a whole, 21,243 people have been recorded with coronavirus, while 531 people have died from it. Ontario has been the province most affected by the pandemic, alongside Quebec who have recorded 216 deaths.
