A young teen from Newmarket, Ontario was detained after posting a message on social media threatening to commit a mass shooting at an elementary school.

Police say the student is in custody after threatening to conduct a mass shooting the Clearmeadow Public School in Newmarket, specifically calling it "Columbine 2.0," in reference to the 1999 Columbine high school massacre.

York Regional Police said on Twitter that there were no weapons, and that the school was closed.

All classes were switched to remote learning for the day on Wednesday, reports CP24.

"We have confirmed with York Regional Police that there is no threat to the school and regular operations will resume tomorrow," the school board said.
