Unhinged CNN political analyst accuses ET’s Mary Hart of flashing ‘white power’ OK symbol at Mount Rushmore
Mary Hart has been accused by CNN political analyst April Ryan of flashing a “white power” sign during Trump’s Fourth of July speech at Mount Rushmore.
Former Entertainment Tonight host Mary Hart has been accused by CNN political analyst April Ryan of flashing a "white power" sign during President Donald Trump's Fourth of July speech at Mount Rushmore.
"Thank you, incredible audience. You have been here for hours!" Hart said, making "OK" symbols with both her hands.
Hart's use of the symbol resulted in a flurry of social media users outraged that she would do such a thing.
Mary Hart appeared in her home state of South Dakota to host the Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration, which included US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who flew in on Air Force One, according to Daily Mail.
The "OK" symbol is regarded by some as being a symbol of "white power." This idea of the hand gesture being a white power symbol was perpetuated as a joke on online forums like 4chan.
The Anti-Defamation League abandoned the notion that the "OK" sign is either okay, or humorous, saying that "by 2019, at least some white supremacists seem to have abandoned the ironic or satiric intent behind the original trolling campaign and used the symbol as a sincere expression of white supremacy."
This comes after many "OK" sign hoaxes, such as the West Point Cadets who were accused of being white supremacists when in reality they were playing something called the circle game. Or the Mexican American man who was fired for the making the white supremacist gesture when he was only cracking his knuckles. Students at an Army Navy football game were also investigated, though this, too, proved to be unfounded.
Scott Nevins tweeted: "I’d love to say that #MaryHart is now canceled for hosting Trump's corona-spreading hate rally, while giving the double 'white power' symbol, but really, she hasn’t worked in 10 years and you have to be relevant in order to be canceled. #girlbye."
Willie Garson tweeted: "Make sure @MaryHart is aware that we know what she did last night. The double WHITE POWER sign was neither a mistake or a coincidence. She knew EXACTLY what she was doing."
Rob Gill even referred to Mary Hart as a Nazi for the symbols she made with her hand, tweeting: ".@MaryHart has outed herself as a Nazi by flashing the white power sign."
The outrage comes during 40 straight days of protesting and rioting after the death of George Floyd, which has seen the rise of Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and their sympathizers. These groups have been responsible for vandalism, arson, burglary, assault, and even murder all across the country.
During the holiday speech, Trump announced that he intended to erect a new monument called the "national garden of American heroes" following the tearing down of statues by protesters who feel the memorials represent oppression and pro-slavery ideologies.
The garden is set to be a "vast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans who ever lived."
Trump also ensured that federal law enforcement officers would be deployed to "protect our monuments, arrest the rioters and prosecute offenders to the furthest extent of the law."
