In early July, Patrick Brown was disqualified from the Conservative Party leadership race, causing many to wonder what his future would entail.
On Monday, he officially announced that he would be running for re-election as mayor of Brampton, Ontario.
As Global News reports, Brown filed his papers alongside his wife and children ahead of the municipal election set to be held in October.
"I love serving the city of Brampton," he said shortly after making his run for mayor official. "This is truly an incredible place to live."
He went on to describe Brampton as "a mosaic of the world," pointing out that "you get to meet people from every culture, every background."
"It has been the greatest privilege to serve the city over the last four years," he said, adding that he's "looking forward to the next four years."
Brown has served as mayor of the city since 2018, during which time he says his team has "done a lot of great work together."
In June, during an interview on CBC's Power and Politics, host Vassy Kapelos asked Brown whether he intended to run for mayor or continue with his nationwide ambitions, pointing out that mayoral candidates need to file their nomination papers by August 19, and the Conservative leadership race doesn't end until September 10.
Brown responded by saying he had "no plans" to put his papers in.
Less than a month later, the decision was made for him, as he was disqualified from running for leader of the CPC, a move which Brown claimed was made to ensure front-runner Pierre Poilievre becomes the next Conservative candidate for prime minister.
Brown's campaign was filled with ups and downs. At one point, he was accused of using $35,000 in Brampton taxpayers' money to boost his national profile.
