Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of defense, revealed on Wednesday that a bomb threat had been made against him and his family.

In a post on X, Hegseth described how law enforcement arrived at his home early Wednesday morning to notify him and his wife of the credible threat, which included a potential pipe bomb targeting their family.

“This morning, a police officer arrived at our home—where our seven children were still sleeping. The officer notified my wife and I that they had received a credible pipe bomb threat targeting me and my family. We are all safe and the threat has been cleared. We want to thank law enforcement for their professionalism and bravery,” Hegseth wrote.

“I will not be bullied or intimidated. Never. President Trump has called on me to serve—and that is what I intend to do,” he added.

Hegseth is not the only Trump cabinet pick to face threats. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, Trump’s nominee for US ambassador to the United Nations, and Howard Lutnick, the nominee for commerce secretary, were also threatened. Lee Zeldin, Trump’s pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, confirmed that his home was threatened with a bomb threat and a pro-Palestinian-themed message.

A spokesperson for Trump’s transition team confirmed threats had been made against several appointees but did not provide details on the number of individuals targeted. The FBI also confirmed it is involved in the investigation regarding the threats.

Authorities have not yet determined if the pipe bomb threat against Hegseth was credible in terms of actual explosives being present. A law enforcement bomb squad was believed to have been deployed to his residence as a result of the threat.

The threats come amid President-elect Trump’s announcements of high-profile cabinet picks during his transition. Despite the incidents, Trump’s transition process appears to enjoy overwhelming public support. A CBS/YouGov poll conducted last week showed that 59 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of the transition.
