New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo has more than once expressed his interest in attending the NFL playoff game in Buffalo. In fact, he changed COVID rules after they made the playoffs. But a lot of people don't want him to come.
A petition has been going around on change.org asking for the controversial politician to not be allowed into the stadium to see the Bills play, and has garnered more than 16,900 signatures in a very short time, breaking the 15,000 mark just under an hour before this writing late on Tuesday morning.
"So Cuomo is going to attend our playoff game after telling us that we can only attend at less than 10% capacity? If he thinks he has more right to a seat in that stadium over people who have waited over 20 years for this opportunity, then people better be there to protest his entry. This is OUR team! This is OUR home. We don't want you here!!" reads the petition.
This is more than double the amount of seats (6772) which will be available to the public in Bills Stadium to cheer on their team, which are truly having a banner year (they haven't made the playoffs in 25 years). The number 6772 represents less than 10% of the stadium's total capacity.
In the video below, one can clearly see Cuomo's flip-flopping on the issue, possibly due to his affinity for the Bills and his desire to personally see the game in person:
Cuomo has been famous for having instituted one of the most severe sets of lockdown measures, including his famous Thanksgiving lockdown that was seen as so draconian, the NYPD refused to enforce it.
"The spread is inevitable if we do not control the hot spots," Cuomo said famously, referring to recent NYC public school closures. "There’s always opposition, and we move forward anyway, and we’ll continue to do that."
