An online poll recently released suggests that COVID-19 has damaged the trust Canadians have put into their American neighbours, while US citizens have more faith in their northern counterpart than they do in themselves, according to Global News.

The poll from Leger and the Association for Canadian studies found that only 34 percent of respondents expressed trust in Americans, compared with 58 percent from a similar survey in November 2019.

Among those living in the US, just over 72 percent said they trusted Canadians, compared to 70 percent who expressed trust in their fellow citizens.

Sixty-six percent of Canadians who participated in the survey worried about COVID-19 cases crossing over the border from the US, while only 19 percent of US respondents felt the same way about the contagion invading from the north.

The poll also found that 34 percent of American participants would feel safe taking a vacation in Canada once travel restrictions are lifted, compared with 19 percent of Canadians asked about traveling south of the border.

According to the Kelowna Daily Courier, the poll surveyed 1,515 Canadianns and 1,012 Americans. Since online polls do not carry any margin of error, these findings are not considered to be representative of the population at large.
