Premier Doug Ford will be asking the Ontario Legislature for the provincial state of emergency to be extended until May 31, according to CTV News.

On Tuesday, the legislature will continue for the fourth emergency session. This will give MPPs the chance to get another extension approved in the state of emergency declaration. They will also debate a new emergency bill related to coronavirus and question the government's pandemic response.

The present state of emergency expires on Tuesday.

There will only be 42 MPPs at the one-day session due to social distancing procedures. Of the 42, there will be 21 Progressive Conservatives, three Liberals, 14 NDP MPPs, as well as two independent members, Mike Schreiner of the Green Party and speaker Ted Arnott.

According to the government, there are “extraordinary measures” in place to ensure the safety of MPPs as well as legislative staff. There will be screening protocols for those entering Queen’s Park and people displaying symptoms of coronavirus may be denied access.

In the first question period since March, Ford and ministers will be pressed by members of the opposition for one hour.

There will also be legislature on May 19, 20, 26, 27 and June 2 and 3.
