President Biden unfroze government funds which were held from dispersal by President Donald Trump. This order was one of his first as the new President of the United States. The frozen funds were part of the $2.3 trillion omnibus spending bill.
According to The Hill, President Trump issued a number of complaints about the bill, including the fact that Americans were to only receive $600. He furthermore complained about various programs he deemed to be wasteful, including money sent overseas and wage increases for various politicians.
"I will sign the Omnibus and Covid package with a strong message that makes clear to Congress that wasteful items need to be removed," said Trump at the time. "I will send back to Congress a redlined version, item by item, accompanied by the formal rescission request to Congress insisting that those funds be removed from the bill."
The Democrats were enraged at President Trump for freezing the funding. "After four years of the Trump Administration diminishing the United States' place in the world, these rescissions would further eviscerate our global leadership role," House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said.
President Biden has now unfrozen those funds and they will be distributed according to the massive spending bill.
