York City Police Captain Daniel Lentz told reporters at a press conference that the counts "range from felony riot to misdemeanor simple assault, defiant trespass and harassment." Since the suspects are minors, their names are being withheld in the case.
York County District Attorney Tim Barker said the case will go through the juvenile system, which is largely "focused on rehabilitation," but that the girls will still face real consequences. "We absolutely will fully hold accountable the individuals that did this," Barker said, per the New York Post.
The violence erupted around 1:50 am on Saturday when a mob descended on the off-campus house of several female York College students in the West Jackson Street area. According to one of the victims, over 100 people had gathered for an illegal street race and then the mob descended on their home while they were sitting on the porch, and the attack followed a verbal altercation.
Footage from the scene showed a blonde girl getting dragged by her hair from the porch and then attacked by the mob.
"After the first punch was given, all these girls started to rush us, and that’s where it kind of gets blurry because I think people were coming at me… I turn and see my friend get dragged by her hair down our porch steps and disappear. My other friend got dragged by her hair," the student told Fox 43.
"I don’t exactly remember how I got out of it, but I was encircled by probably 30 people by myself getting video recorded while getting punched and kicked from every angle," a second victim said.
Barker said every injury met the legal definition of "bodily injury," which means none were life-threatening. "We absolutely thank God for that," he said.
