Quebec's Health Minister Christian Dube announced during a news conference on Thursday that the province will be expanding its COVID passport system to liquor stores, and that three doses will soon be the minimum requirement for a valid pass.
Dube did not give a date for when the change would be implemented, only that it would change once the entire province has the opportunity to get a third dose of vaccine.
Third doses of vaccine are currently reserved for those 50 and older, with eligibility expanding on January 17.
The health minister also provided some detail for what Quebecers could expect for liquor and cannabis stores.
Dube said that those who are not vaccinated will not be able to access the government-run stores as of January 18.
Dube said that the province is dealing with an avalanche of hospitalizations, with that number soon to exceed 3,000.
For those with problems with the new mandates, Dube said: “If the unvaccinated are unhappy, there is a very simple solution — get vaccinated. It’s free and will protect you.”
