Congresswoman and “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib urged climate activists from a number of different environmental groups to be “much more aggressive” as they intend to launch more protests and blocking of highways later this summer, per Daily Mail.

Tlaib gave a virtual talk to 125 people involved with Climate Defiance, Declare Emergency, and other environmental groups.

While climate activists have already blocked US highways and vandalized artwork in Washington, DC, they intend to strategize larger protests, such as those seen in Europe.

Tlaib said: “We have to be much more aggressive in regard to fossil fuel expansions.”

“If we don’t get the policies we need, if our legislative process is failing us, then direct action gets the goods.”

The congresswoman also praised the groups’ “civil disobedience actions” and pushed them to “use the bullhorn,” noting that Congress and the White House were not going to cut pollution enough until “the streets demanded it,” per the report.

Tlaib was backed by filmmaker Adam McKay, who has apparently pledged $100,000 to fund climate activism in the US. Environmental journalist David Wallace-Wells has also joined the case, as well as several activists who have spent time in jail for protesting.

During the online session, Declare Emergency’s Seattle-based mobilizer Donald Zepeda revealed plans to protest on federal properties in New York City and Washington in August.

Zepeda said: “We aim for whatever causes the most kerfuffle, everyone has to see it. Everyone is impacted.”

“Doing massively disruptive, nonviolent civil disobedience, it's a necessary and important part of getting us to where we need to be.”

Adam McKay, who was involved in films such as The Big Short and Don’t Look Up, said that “nothing cuts through the BS and rigamarole more than straight-up disruptive activism.”

“I'm talking about the power of the people.”

“I'm talking about the people that created democracy, that threw the kings out of power.”
