RCMP in Nova Scotia say the April 19 shooter had various authentic police uniforms and are unsure how he acquired them. He also acquired several former police vehicles at auctions, according to CTV News. Police say he had one of the authentic uniforms on when the shooting took place.
In a briefing on Tuesday, Supt. Darren Campbell of the Nova Scotia RCMP said it is thought that the shooter was able to escape from the Portapique, NS area by cutting through a field in his car—eventually making it to Debert, NS.
Over 435 witnesses are now being interviewed by officers after coming forward with new information.
Nova Scotia RCMP provided an update on the investigation. Supt. Darren Campbell led the briefing from Dartmouth.
Campbell previously gave a timeline of the shooting on Friday when the Mounties held their last news conference.
Police are still unsure of the motive, but know the killings started after the shooter assaulted his girlfriend in Portapique. She was able to escape the attacks by running into the woods close to the home. In a nearby neighbourhood, 13 people were shot and died along Portapique Beach road.
Investigators are now looking at 16 crime scenes spanning 90 kilometres. In total, 22 people lost their lives in the shooting.
