Rep Brandon Gill has introduced a bill that aims to close legal loopholes that give employers financial incentives to hire illegal immigrant workers over American citizens.

The New IDEA Act, introduced on Wednesday, requires data sharing between the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Social Security Administration to identify and remove illegal immigrants from the workforce. In addition, the bill strengthens and permanently authorizes E-Verify, which gives "employers legal protection when relying on its results and allowing job offers to be contingent on final verification," per a press release from Gill’s office.

Gill said in a statement, "It’s time to dismantle the jobs magnet driving illegal immigration and ensure that unscrupulous employers do not benefit from hiring illegal aliens over American citizens. We shouldn’t be doling out American jobs to illegal aliens from foreign nations. My legislation promotes a thriving economy and encourages E-verify use so law abiding Americans can make an honest living, earn benefits, and run successful businesses that serve their communities."

Gill wrote after introducing the bill, "I just introduced the New IDEA Act to shut down the jobs magnet fueling illegal immigration. My bill blocks tax breaks for hiring illegals, encourages E-Verify, and tears down the bureaucratic firewall shielding them from deportation. America’s jobs belong to Americans."

The bill has been cosponsored by Reps. Tom McClintock, Troy Nehls, Paul Gosar, Lauren Boebert, Randy Weber, Ralph Norman, Chip Roy, Eli Crane, Barry Moore, Mark Harris, and Scott Perry, and supported by the Immigration Accountability Project, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), and NumbersUSA.

FAIR Director of Government Relations Joe Chatham said, "Ending the unlawful employment of illegal aliens is fundamentally important to reducing illegal immigration. The measures included in this bill make crucial strides toward achieving that goal by closing tax deduction loopholes and cracking down on companies employing illegal aliens. FAIR applauds Congressman Gill for leading with this bill, working to protect American workers, and holding employers accountable."

NumbersUSA Director of Federal Relations Mike Hough said, "Businesses should not get tax breaks for hiring and employing illegal aliens. We applaud Rep. Gill for putting forward legislation that puts American workers and law-abiding businesses first."
