WATCH: Reps call for IOC to lose tax-exempt status for pandering to China

Reps. Michael Waltz and Jennifer Wexton were interviewed by Fox News on Thursday and they both mentioned that they felt the International Olympic Committee (IOC) doesn't deserve it's tax-exempt status anymore due to their cozying up to the Chinese regime.

Reps. Michael Waltz (R-FL) and Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) were interviewed by Fox News on Thursday and both agreed that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) doesn't deserve it's tax-exempt status anymore due to their cozying up to the Chinese regime.

"What is the IOC response to this [demand that their tax-exempt status be removed]? Have you received one?" the two Congresspeople were asked by host Martha McCallum.

"No, not yet. I expect continued radio silence from the IOC," responded Rep. Waltz.

"As you know, Martha, a number of us, Republican and Democrat, have been asking the IOC for years now to move the games, to not host them in Beijing, with an ongoing genocide, with an ongoing incarceration, rape, torture, sterilization and abortion of Uighur women, on top of  Hong Kong and the threats to Taiwan.

"They've refused to move the games. I've called for a full boycott. I don't think the administration's diplomatic boycott goes nearly far enough."

Rep. Waltz then talked about how he feels the sponsors for the Olympic games are, at best, apathetic about these issues because they don't want it to hurt their bottom line:

"We've called out the Olympic sponsors who've hypocritically preached good corporate governance and social justice at home, but then are making billions [off of the Chinese market]."

"But, at the end of the day, we don't think the taxpayers – American taxpayers – should be subsidizing the IOC as a 501(c)-4, which mean it's a social welfare organization, to then turn its back on these types of atrocities and put our athletes in a position of threatening their safety, but also having to choose between competing or turning a back on their values."

Rep. Wexton then chimed in:

"It's exceedingly clear that they have moved away from their original mission of sport and companionship, and also of human rights."

"Time after time, they have been siding with the Chinese Communist Party over human rights. And it's about time that we call them on it, because, they are no longer deserving of tax-subsidized actions."

"That's a good point," concluded McCallum.
