Over 40 titles were quickly added to the list.
While many of the books touched on long-debunked ideas such as the link between vaccines and autism, others were written by scientists and contained medical information.
According to Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Jim Jordan, internal emails from Amazon showed employees admitting that "the impetus for this request is criticism from the Biden Administration about sensitive books we're giving prominent placement to." A new "Do Not Promote" class was created, and over 40 titles were quickly added to the list.
While the list included titles such as "The Autism Vaccine: The Story of Modern Medicine's Greatest Tragedy," written and independently published by Forrest Maready, a sound engineer with a degree in music and religion, others simply reviewing scientific papers were also put there.
Among the blacklisted titles was a children's book encouraging kids to not discriminate based on vaccination status. "Instead of censoring it, Amazon should have sent the book to Fauci, [Gavin Newsom] and [Joe Biden," Jordan quipped.
A book by controversial physician Robert Sears was also included, which Jordan chalked up to the idea that, "there is nothing the Biden Admin and the elites hate more than parents making their own decisions about their children's education, health, and values."
"Don't let the Biden Admin tell you that their censorship campaign was about concerns of misinformation going viral on social media," Jordan wrote. "They were going after BOOKS too. This is–and always has been–about suppressing difavored views, not purported challenges of new technologies."
He went on to deem the government's actions "unconstitutional," adding, "Whether you agree with this speech or not, free speech is free speech and the Biden Admin pressured private companies to censor constitutionally protected speech."
