Kilmar Abrego Garcia was accused of being a gang member in 2018 court documents filed by his wife's ex.

According to the New York Post, Jennifer Vasquez Sura’s ex, Edwin Trejo Ramos, said in a court filing while petitioned for his children's custody at the time, "She is dating a gang member."

Ramos claimed that he feared for the lives of his children and alleged that Sura attempted to kill herself and had left the children with a babysitter who was only 11 years old.

Abrego Garcia was deported by the Trump administration to El Salvador earlier this month, and left-wing media has portrayed him as a “Maryland dad” who was needlessly removed from the US. Democratic politicians have even made trips down to El Salvador to meet with the gang member. Although the Trump administration said in legal documents that Abrego Garcia was deported by mistake, the administration has maintained that it was only an administrative error.

Abrego Garcia is a known illegal immigrant to the US and an immigration court determined that there was sufficient evidence that he is a member of Ms-13 in 2019.

"Based on evidence presented, including a validated gang field interview sheet from the Prince George’s County Police Department and testimony from a proven confidential source, the Court finds that the respondent is a verified member of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, holding the rank of 'Chequeo' with the Westerns clique," an immigration judge said at the time.

However, another immigration court allowed Abrego Garcia to remain in the US, and ordered a block on his deportation after he claimed that he would be killed in El Salvador by the enemy gang to MS-13 if he went back. He was also revealed to have tattoos on his knuckles that are representative of the MS-13 gang.
