Shocking revelations surrounding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband were brought to light on Tuesday when court documents revealed that Paul Pelosi allegedly had a drug in his system when he was arrested on DUI charges in May.
Further allegations state that Paul Pelosi slurred his speech and tried to hand officers a police courtesy card, Fox News reports.
On May 28, Paul Pelosi caused a "major collision" after he allegedly crashed his porsche into a Jeep near the intersection of California Route 29 and Oakville Cross Road.
Pelosi was arrested on DUI charges and had a blood alcohol content of 0.082 percent, which is above the legal limit, investigators say.
According to court documents, Pelosi allegedly handed officers an "11-99 Foundation" card while he presented his ID. The 11-99 Foundation is a California Highway Patrol charity that supports officers and provides scholarships for their children, Fox News reports.
The documents state that during field sobreity testing, Pelosi allegedly exhibited "signs of impairment" and officers "observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication."
The House Speaker's husband was allegedly "unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcohol beverage emanating from his breath," according to the complaint.
The complaint also alleges that Pelosi had "red/watery eyes" at the time of his arrest.
During the collision, Pelosi allegedly injured the other driver, "while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and a drug and under their combined influence," according to the complaint. The driver claims he suffered from pain in his upper right arm, right shoulder and neck the day after the crash.
On June 23, Paul Pelosi was charged with DUI causing injury.
Pelosi was released the next morning on a $5,000 bail.
