Apple TV+'s pulled new series The Savant, a drama starring Jessica Chastain, was based on an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) researcher tasked with monitoring online hate networks.

The show, originally scheduled to launch at the end September, of was postponed. The New York Times reported that the decision came after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk earlier this month. That same day, a Colorado school shooting was linked to a suspect whose online activity had reportedly been flagged by an ADL monitor, according to the Jewish Telegraph Agency.

Chastain’s character in the series is based on an undercover ADL investigator identified only as “K,” who was profiled in Cosmopolitan in 2019 under the headline, “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” An ADL spokesperson confirmed to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “K” no longer works at the organization but declined to give further details about her departure.

The timing of the delay also comes as the ADL faces renewed scrutiny. On Tuesday, the organization announced it would retire its long-running “Glossary of Extremism,” a resource once used to classify individuals and groups. The glossary came under fire after it included conservative student organization Turning Point USA.

In a statement on X, the ADL said: “With over 1,000 entries written over many years, the ADL Glossary of Extremism has served as a source of high-level information on a wide range of topics for years. At the same time, an increasing number of entries in the Glossary were outdated. We also saw a number of entries intentionally misrepresented and misused.”

The post continued: “That’s why we are moving to retire the Glossary effectively immediately. This will allow ADL to explore new strategies and creative approaches to deliver our data and present our research more effectively. It will keep us focused on ensuring we do what we do best: fighting antisemitism and hate in the most impactful ways possible.”
