On Saturday, a group of individuals launched an attack on a Robotaxi driverless car in San Francisco's iconic Chinatown.

A group of about 10 to 15 individuals set the Waymo vehicle on fire, smashed out its windows, and graffitied it, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. No person was in the vehicle at the time of the attack.

The incident occurred around 9:25 pm when the rowdy group surrounded the self-driving vehicle as it was headed down Jackson Street, between Stockton and Grant, authorities said.

Video footage shows a mob surrounding the vehicle. One individual begins to bust out one of the windows, which resulted in other members of the group joining in on the attack. The Waymo vehicle is then seen up in flames, video shows.

A Waymo spokesperson told NBC News that an individual allegedly launched a firework off inside the vehicle and there were no passengers inside the driverless vehicle at the time of the incident.

Authorities said that no arrests have been made and the San Francisco Fire Department is investigating the incident. Those who might have information on the matter can contact 415-575-4444.

Waymo, which first launched in San Francisco in 2022, is an autonomous vehicle company owned by the Google parent company Alphabet, and General Motors-owned Cruise. Waymo is a fleet of all-electric driverless cars that are robotlike in appearance, which offers an alternative to ride-sharing services such as Uber, Lift, and Taxi Cabs.
