The new manager of the San Francisco Giants has required every single one of his players to be on the field standing for the National Anthem before every game this season.

Bob Melvin told USA Today, “It’s more about letting the other side know that we’re ready to play. I want guys out here ready to go. There’s a personality to that.”

The team’s former manager Gabe Kapler had stopped going on the field for the “Star Bangled Banner” in 2022 after the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Kapler had previously kneeled for the anthem following the death of George Floyd in 2020.

Melvin said the decision had nothing to do with politics.

He noted that as manager of other teams in Major League Baseball, he had the same policy.

“You want your team ready to play and I want the other team to notice it too.’’
