A coalition of trans activist groups demand resources to aid the "tens of thousands" of trans "refugees" escaping Trump's trans "genocide."
The City of Seattle's LGBT Commission has asked socialist Mayor Katie Wilson to declare a state of emergency in response to what they call a "trans relocation crisis." The advisory group is seeking an increase in taxpayer-funded resources for its "mutual aid" groups, which were established to financially assist trans-identifying people relocating to Seattle from Republican-run states, following the passing of legislation prohibiting taxpayer-funded sex change services.
A coalition of trans activist groups, including the Antifa-affiliated "Moto Hooligans," stated that they need more financial resources to assist the "tens of thousands" of transgender "refugees" who have allegedly moved to Seattle to escape what they call the Trump administration's "genocide" of trans people, according to a Tuesday social media post. As a result, the coalition has demanded free housing for trans people, as well as the allocation of taxpayer funds to pay trans activists to assist with the so-called "crisis."
The group announced a Saturday, May 23, rally and march at Seattle's Cal Anderson Park, the former CHAZ/CHOP zone, to demand further resources from Mayor Wilson, a socialist who took office earlier this year.
"Genocidal and vile legislation across the US have left transgender people with one option- to flee. Tens of thousands of our siblings are flocking to Seattle where they find struggling community orgs fighting uphill to support them! These refugees need more support than what poverty stricken, unemployed, and overwhelmed volunteers can do," the LGBT Commission wrote. "Tell Mayor Wilson no more!"
"The LGBT Commission is calling on Katie Wilson to declare a state of emergency. Now is the time to demand more from our city. We need housing for trans refugees, run by trans orgs for trans people and not being violently swept off the streets by SDP," the advisory group continued. "We need money to employ the unemployed volunteers working full-time against this crisis and massively scale up to meet the numbers we are seeing. We need protection from the federal government and commitment that when the white house comes for trans people the city will say no. We need to fire bigoted police who beat us on the streets with no charges!"
"During Seattle's Trans Day of Visibility, the city declared the crisis we're fighting is a genocide," the commission said. "Hit the streets, and tell Mayor Wilson to act like it!"
In response to the demands, Mayor Wilson sent a letter to the LGBT Commission on Tuesday announcing her intention to create a civil rights team that would "evaluate immediate needs" and "fortify critical services" for the LGBT community. Despite the city's "challenging budget constraints," in which Seattle is facing a roughly $175 million budget deficit, Wilson asserted that she would prioritize providing additional resources.
The trans coalition did not provide evidence to back its claim that 10,000 trans-identifying individuals have relocated to Seattle in recent years; however, Democratic figures across the nation, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson, has declared their states a "sanctuary" for trans folks amid GOP legislation banning sex change surgeries for minors, which could be attributed to the alleged influx. As of current, approximately 27 states have passed laws restricting transgender procedures, citing irreversible damage and safety risks, according to KFF.
The march is scheduled for 3 pm.
