Security guard dead, 7 injured in Florida bar shooting

On Saturday, two people were killed and seven others injured in an early morning shooting at Martini Bar at CityPlace in Doral, Florida. One of those killed was a security guard who intervened in a dispute at the bar. A police officer was among those injured in the incident.

Miami-Dade Police Infomation officer Alvaro Zebeleta told NBC 6 that there was a dispute at the bar around 3:30 am when the shooter, pulled out a gun and shot the security guard to death when he tried to intervene.

Upon arrival, the City of Doral Police shot and killed the gunman. One of the officers was hit in the exchange and taken to the hospital. According to the outlet the officer was later released from the hospital.

Two women and four men were also shot in the incident. One man and one woman were taken to the hospital and are both in critical condition.

In a statement, CityPlace Doral said, "Our thoughts are with all those involved." It added, "The safety of our guests is always our top priority, and we have put a number of additional security measures in place."

"Thank you to the City of Doral law enforcement who were onsite and acted swiftly" the statement continued. "We are fully cooperating with The City of Doral Police Department, Miami-Dade Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and other agencies as the incident is being investigated."

Martini Bar owners also issued a statement on the incident. "Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that unfolded at our venue early this morning that took the life of a dedicated security guard and injured several others." It noted, "Our staff, patrons, and this community are like family to us, and we are completely shaken by this senseless act of violence. We’re working diligently to ensure that all those affected by this feel supported in every way possible."

"We are conducting our own internal investigation, as well as cooperating fully with all authorities. This trauma will be felt deeply by us all for a long time to come, and we are here for our community today, and always," the statement concluded.
