Serena Williams slammed Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at the 2023 ESPY awards.

Serena and her sister Venus Williams were on stage during the awards show with Abbott Elementary actress Quinta Brunson when Venus asked the crowd to enjoy women’s sports “like you would any other sports because they are sports.”

Serena added, “Except you, Harrison Butker, we don’t need you.” The crowd laughed and applauded as Brunson added, “At all … like ever.”  Butker was in the audience of the Dolby Theater to support his teammates who were up for awards.

Butker drew the ire of many on the political left after he gave a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas focusing on Christian values and emphasized that women should not be told "diabolical lies" about the importance of family and their careers.

He said, “How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

Butker’s teammate Patrick Mahomes, who previously defended the kicker, won the award for best athlete in men’s sports, was seated a few rows behind the Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid, who accepted the award on Mahomes’ behalf.
