"This is a kid’s show! Sesame Street is grooming your kids. This is absolutely disgusting."
With Pride Month kicking off for 2026 on Monday, the children’s television show Sesame Street has issued a post telling viewers to uplift those in the LGBTQIA+ community. The post was met with widespread backlash online.
The social media account for the long-running children’s show featured an image of a rainbow of fur colors, along with the caption, "Happy Pride Month from Sesame Street! Join us in celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ members of our community."
The post was met with backlash, with Gays against Groomers writing, "Hey Sesame Street why do you feel it’s appropriate to push a sexual agenda when your show is designed for 3-5 year olds?! PRIDE IS NOT FOR KIDS."
"This is a kid’s show! Sesame Street is grooming your kids. This is absolutely disgusting," wrote Libs of TikTok.
Women’s rights advocate Kellie-Jay Keen wrote, parodying the Sesame Street theme song, "Funny day / Groomin' the kids away / On my way to where virtue is sweet / Can you tell me how to get / How to get to inappropriate Street?"
During Pride Month in 2021, the children’s show introduced a family that had two gay dads. One of the cast members of the show wrote at the time, "Sesame Street has always been a welcoming place of diversity and inclusion. So I'm so excited to introduce Nina's Brother Dave, his husband Frank, and their daughter Mia to our sunny street." He added, "I am so honored and humbled to have co-directed this important and milestone episode. Love is love, and we are so happy to add this special family to our Sesame family. Happy Pride to all!!!!"
The children’s program has made posts marking Pride Month in recent years, including a 2025 post that stated, "On our street, everyone is welcome. Together, let’s build a world where every person and family feels loved and respected for who they are. Happy Pride Month!"
