"Kamala Harris, as border czar, was asked to coordinate all these functions of government, and she's done nothing."
Vance said that the media has been lying about Harris' large role in taking care of border security. "The media lies about Kamala Harris being the border czar. Here is what you're lying about. You cannot have an effective border policy unless you have somebody who is coordinating all the different agencies of the U.S. federal government."
"You need the State Department involved to send people back to their home countries. You need the Department of Justice involved to prosecute these terrible drug crimes. And, of course, you need DHS involved so that the Border Patrol is empowered to do their job," Vance added. "Kamala Harris, as border czar, was asked to coordinate all these functions of government, and she's done nothing."
Vance added that he has spoken to National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez as well as others who said that the security force has tried to send letters and messages to the VP, but that they have not gotten answers from Harris or the Biden administration.
"They send letters. They make phone calls. They are begging the American president and vice president for leadership. And their own border czar ignores them," Vance added. Harris gave an infamous interview with Lester Holt during which she was asked if she had been to the border after she was tasked with dealing with it.
She stated in response at the time, "And I haven't been to Europe. I don't understand the point you're making?" The clip has been put in different Trump campagin ads that have taken aim at Harris’ record as the border czar.
